During the creation of a pattern ChartCrafter only allows valid crochet operations. Therefore, all of the generated instructions are precise and crochetable by default and can be exported as text or crochet chart.
Every new pattern is created visually on the basis of crochet charts. Clicking a stitch symbols results in a new stitch which inserts into it and is placed according to the pattern structure. No more moving or rotating stitch symbols by hand.
Each digitally created pattern is structured in a way that ChartCrafter can generate instruction text for each row or round. Text generation supports English and German.
ChartCrafter understands the techniques of crochet and therefore is able to support you. Have rows or rounds completed or repeated automatically. This way even large patterns can be completed quickly.
Next to visualizing your crochet charts on a flat canvas you can even view them in 3D and even build 3D patterns. This allows you to see the impact of your stitch structure on the overall shape.
Everything runs directly on the web. Edit, open and save your projects securely using any browser. No installation or downloads necessary.
I have just finished my masters degree in Computer Science at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam. I chose my own masterthesis topic.
My goal: Domain Support for Creating Digital Crochet Pattern Instructions.
Most of the issues were already familiar to me before I started since I am an enthusiastic crocheter (I like especially amigurumis). Sometimes, you are confronted with mistakes due to copy-and-paste errors, the crochet chart is not clear, used abbreviations might not be well known or explained or you only find the instructions in french - and what is the equivalent of 'single crochet' in french?! To get from understanding a pattern to the crocheted outcome might therefore be a long process. In order to improve this I want to support crochet designers in easily creating their crochet patterns digitally by supporting them with automatic layout of crochet charts and textgeneration.

year. While Klara Seitz will be the technical lead, Lydia will
take care of everything else.
Her 10 years of professional experience in public relations and
her degree in game design (M.A.) make her an all-round talent

The community in DIY is dedicated, crochet as an activity is creative and Klara as an inventor is astute and authentic, which together sums up my personal identification with the subject as well as my motivation. I believe in the idea and in Klara.
